In the field of architecture, sustainable design is an integrated approach that considers the entire life of a building and its components. The approach supports environmental stewardship and conservation, while balancing costs and benefits. The main goals of sustainable design are to reduce depletion of resources including energy, water and raw material; minimize environmental damage caused by building and facilities throughout their life; and create better building environments. The bottom line is that sustainable design has environmental, economic and social elements that benefit all stake-holders, including owners, occupants and the general public.
At Eppstein Uhen Architects, sustainable design is one of our core values. We constantly strive to encourage and educate our clients and staff to consider design and construction strategies that use natural resources in prudent and environmentally wise ways. It is safe to say that all of our current projects have some consideration of sustainable practices and materials.
